Job Summary

Provide support for two departments in the School of Veterinary Medicine: Population Health and Reproduction and Pathology, Microbiology & Immunology. Responsible for providing comprehensive personnel management and support. Provide consultation, advice and planning in support of business processes, policies and practices. Independently provide research, analysis and guidance related to personnel management (staff/academic), including recruitment, classification, stipends, equities, employee and labor relations, training and development, merits, appraisals, academic appointments, merits and promotions and other general personnel actions. Collaborates with Shared Services Center (AUSS-C) and Dean's Office.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • HR experience working with principles and practices of human resources administration.
  • Analytical experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting data; skilled in contributing to solutions, forecasting the impact of potential actions, developing logical conclusions and recommending solutions. Be proactive in anticipating any issues or needs and communicate these effectively to all necessary parties.
  • Experience with staff personnel policies and procedures, including classification, recruitment, hiring and staff administration.
  • Skills to work independently and effectively under minimal supervision and to follow numerous and varied projects to completion, keeping appropriate personnel advised of project status, due dates, etc. while meeting multiple deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, or a related a field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience coordinating academic personnel actions, for a variety of faculty, academic, staff, and student titles and working with academic personnel policies and procedures, recruitment of faculty and faculty advancement.
  • Experience using MyInfoVault, UC Outside Activities Tracking, Cognos, DaFIS, Handshake, and UC Recruit.
  • Knowledge of visa processing and student employment hiring process.
  • Knowledge of Personnel Policies for Staff Members, academic Federation, Unit 18 agreement, collective bargaining agreements, and student employment policies.

Department Overview

The Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology (PMI) and the Department of Population Health and Reproduction (PHR) are under the School of Veterinary Medicine.

PHR is an academic department with approximately 185 employees: 21 academic senate faculty (including 2 CAHFS faculty), 18 academic federation members, 8 postdoctoral scholars, 18 staff titles, 28 various student titles in addition to 25 emeriti. PMI is an academic department with approximately 160 active employees: 38 academic senate faculty (includes 10 CAHFS faculty), 9 academic federation members, 15 postdoctoral scholars, 34 staff titles, 13 various student titles in addition to 35 emeriti.

Work Environment
