Department: WCAS Political Science

The Department of Political Science at Northwestern University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Politics, broadly construed, with an expected start on September 1, 2025. American politics subfield expertise is preferred, although we also welcome scholars whose work encompasses environmental/climate politics of the US in comparative or international perspective. We are open with regard to methodological approach, as well as to behavioral, institutional, state/local, political economy, and historical perspectives.

Successful candidates will build strong linkages with the Environmental Policy and Culture program and contribute to a cross-disciplinary group of scholars at Northwestern who study social- and human-environment interactions across social, cultural, economic, and political spectra. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to contribute to a growing curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity and a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring of undergraduates and graduate students. We are particularly interested in scholars with a commitment and track record of promoting inclusion in the realms of research, teaching and/or service.

Applicants must provide a curriculum vitae, cover letter, writing sample, research statement, teaching statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and three letters of recommendation. Applicants are invited to submit a statement addressing their past and/or potential contributions to enhancing diversity, equity, and/or inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service. Applicants will have the option to upload additional writing samples. Applications and supporting documents will be accepted only by online submission using Northwestern University's Faculty Recruiting Portal. Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree is required; however, ABD applicants who anticipate completion of the doctorate by Fall 2025 will be considered. Consideration of files will begin on October 15 and will continue until the position is filled. All applications received by October 20 will be given priority.
