Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Office of Student Engagement/Student Center is a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The mission of the department is to provide cultural, social, recreational and educational programs that enhance the overall educational development of students and promote programs that improve the campus culture. The department is also responsible for coordination of the student organization recognition process, student organization leadership development and administrative advising of select student organizations including the Student Government Association, Student Activities Council, and Miss FSU and Mr. FSU. The unit also assists with Greek affairs; publishes the FSU Yearbook; and coordinates lyceum programs, and special event weeks to include Welcome Week, Homecoming, Spring Rodeo, and the Miss FSU and Mr. FSU Pageants.

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Associate Director provides leadership in the management of the Office of Student Engagement. Employee conceptualizes, implements and continually improves policies and procedures, develops a comprehensive slate of programs and activities and identifies new technology to enhance the Fayetteville State University student experience. The Assistant Director develops a comprehensive slate of programs and activities, helps supervise several full-time and student staff members, manages a portion of the Student Engagement budget, and actively participates in Office of Student Engagement strategic planning. The Assistant Director serves as a general resource to the university community on issues pertaining to programming and event logistics. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement reports to the Director of Student Engagement and serves as a key member of the staff.
Description of Work Continued:
Administrative & Assessment :
*Conducts research and make recommendations to the Director of Student Engagement on methods to increase student satisfaction and participation; Develops, submits for approval and implements goals and action plans for the Office of Student Engagement.
* Design's method of evaluating programs and activities to increase number of student participants. Secures information for use by the Director of Student Engagement for reports, recommendation for expansion of programs and services. Serves as a member of department-wide committees, (e.g. strategic planning, marketing, budgeting, financial management, contract management); Maintains thorough knowledge of the state and university system policies and regulations as they relate to student activities, safety, and contract negotiations. Negotiates entertainment contracts for programs and activities sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Student Activities Council.
*Performs general office duty; Maintains the petty cash and change fund assigned to the Office of Student Engagement and conducts monthly audits to ensure proper postings of revenue and charges.

Organizing & Directing:

*Co-advises one or more of the student governed organizations by monitoring the organizations budget and expenditures, providing programming support, advisement, and counsel; Supervises professional service contracts according to established university guidelines; Develops co-sponsorships with other campus units and commercial entities to expand the comprehensive slate of programs and activities.
*Researches, analyses and develops policies and procedures for campus programs and activities sponsored by campus clubs and organizations.
*Provides advisement and implements the Honda All-Star Challenge Tournament and prepares the team for competition in the National Tournament Oversees and supports the implementation of special events, programs and activities sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement to include Welcome Week, Homecoming, Rodeo, Mr. FSU Competition and the Miss FSU Pageant; Chaperones' activities sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement, Student Activities Council, Student Government Association. Serves on university committees. Assumes other administrative assignments as required by Director.
*Serves as co-advisor for special program events with the Director of Leadership Development and Special projects. Serves as essential/mandatory personnel and is required to report to work during inclement weather and other university emergencies as deemed necessary by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Supervision:

*Supervises office student workers and work study students.
*Acts in the absence of the Director of Student Engagement; Assist the Director in overseeing daily operation and function of the Office of Student Engagement.
*Develops a comprehensive program of events and activities to enhance the quality of campus life.
*Establishes and maintains standards for excellence for programs and activities.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A Master's degree in Educational Administration, College Student Personnel, Sociology or other related field is required. At least 3-5 years of administrative experience in the student activities/engagement or student union at the college level or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Training/Experience:
Five years of successful experience in a University Student Center/Union. Demonstrated experience in program development for diverse populations. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
