Overview

RTI's Center for Drug Discovery (CDD) is seeking a Research Microbiologist with experience in antimicrobial drug discovery. CDD is a successful multi-disciplinary center comprised of chemists and pharmacologists/biologists working together to discover new therapeutics in a non-profit setting.

Our work is primarily funded by federal agencies, such as the NIH and FDA, through grants and contracts. The ideal candidate is expected to establish or have established an independent federally funded research program in their area of expertise.

This position is located at our headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC.


Responsibilities

  • Perform grant and/or contract activities related to research domain expertise.
  • Supervise and mentor junior scientists and serve as a technical area expert.
  • Attract federal and commercial grants and contracts as a principal investigator.
  • Support ongoing projects through collaborative research.
  • Communicate research results through peer-reviewed publications and participation in scientific meetings.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or DVM with postdoctoral experience in microbiology or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as principal investigator, study director, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in drug discovery and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage collaborations and build strong relationships with peers and clients.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program.

Preferred:

  • Expertise with Gram-positive or Gram-negative antimicrobial discovery is preferred.
