Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for Dental Hygienist, SY-Clinic Oral & Max Surgery


Experience and Education

  • High school graduate plus graduate of recognized school of dentistry or dental hygiene accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation of American Dental Association and approved by board or alternative dental hygiene training program, and licensure to practice dental hygiene in State of Texas,
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).
  • Also requires CPR certification.


Job Duties

  • Cleans teeth of patients professionally through scaling and polishing.
  • Administers approved dental preventive treatments, such as application of drugs to surface tissues and to exposed surfaces of teeth.
  • Advises patients as to correct home care and treatment of teeth and gums.
  • Sets-up instruments and supplies to be used during procedures.
  • Cleans and sterilizes treatment rooms and instruments after procedure completion.
  • Provides maintenance and infection control of instruments and handpieces by sharpening instruments as needed and by cleaning and sterilizing instruments as according to established policy.
  • Takes preoperative and postoperative radiographs, including processing, developing, labeling and filing in patients' charts.
  • Provides instructions and demonstrations with models to groups regarding dental care and correct methods of brushing teeth and gums.
  • Maintains records of services rendered.
  • Assists with organizing patient follow-up visits.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:

    • a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients;
    • b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants;
    • c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records);
    • d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.


  • **Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
