Job Summary:

The Security Officer provides safety and security services to ensure the well-being of both people and property by patrolling assigned areas. The Security Officer will assist with enforcement of rules and regulations of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital.

  • Per Diem


Security Job Functions:



  • Escorts visitors, patients, and staff to requested locations.
  • Performs routine patrols of the hospital and campus.
  • Responds to emergency situations and alarms.
  • Verbally de-escalates high stress situations involving agitated persons.
  • Confront hostile persons in high stress situations using physical force as needed.
  • Enforces Oakleaf Surgical Hospital policies related to Environment of Care Safety and Security.
  • Conducts and evaluates fire drills.
  • Controls access to Oakleaf Surgical Hospital through video surveillance and access control systems.
  • Assists in maintaining the lost and found program.
  • Conducts investigations and prepares security incident reports.
  • Assists motorists as needed.
  • Observes safety and security hazards while on patrols.
  • Maintains accurate daily logs.
  • Has a plan that creates a mechanism for staff to have a security escort when exiting the hospital.
  • Is aware of specific geographic areas defined as high-risk areas based on crime stats provided by the Altoona Police Department commonly known areas of concentrated criminal activity.
  • Maintains awareness of high-risk patients in terms of potential threat to hospital staff.
  • Is subject to all affiliate policies and rules relative to on-call status.
  • Completes paperwork related to the service provided to ensure accurate reimbursement.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowing in implementation of security protocols, access control, and emergency management procedures.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with colleagues, visitors, and authorities both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge in security systems, alarms, and other technological tools used for monitoring and controlling access.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Officer and other technology platforms used for leading the Emergency Management program.
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to notice suspicious activities or behaviors.
  • Customer services skills to provide assistance and information to visitors while maintaining a professional and courthouse demeanor.
  • Knowledge of law, regulations and accreditation standards related to security, privacy, the use of force and emergency management.



Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field of study required.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field of study preferred.
  • Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience of private security functions required.
