Genomics & Sequencing Co Op

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Evaluate and develop new methodologies relating to long-read next generation sequencing automated workflows;
  • Drive experimental design with guidance from multiple marker scientists and data analysis scientists;
  • Analyze outcomes in conjunction with wet and dry lab scientists and provide assessment of approaches during and at the end of the co-op;
  • Primary or shared project responsibility for executing experiments on next generation sequencing workflows with assistance from team members in genomics & sequencing team

WHO YOU ARE

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be registered and currently enrolled in a graduate program - PhD - pursuing a degree in Biology, Breeding, Cell & Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Biochemistry or related field;
  • Demonstrated interest and coursework in subjects related to genetics or genomics or molecular biology;
  • Curiosity and self-motivation to be exposed to and learn different techniques and their applications;
  • Ability to work within a team-based environment;
  • Experience with coding in languages such as Python or R and/or experiencce in computaitonal and analytical tools analyzing large datasets;
  • Agility in the face of changing projects or demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with computational analysis of next generation sequencing and the use of this data in genetic or genomic analysis;
  • Experience using computational methods for sequencing data analysis;
  • Familiarity and experience with next generation library preparations with emphasis on long-read technologies.
