Summary

The Staff Attorney provides legal advice and counsel to Mary Free Bed under the oversight of the General Counsel. Serves to reduce risk and guide informed decisions by researching and interpreting laws, and advising providers in interactions with outside agencies and regulatory bodies. Drafts and reviews legal documents and keeps staff informed of relevant health care law.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Works under the general oversight of the General Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel to MFB

Research and interpret laws and regulations to reduce risk and guide informed decisions.

Draft and review agreements, contracts, company policies and employee handbooks.

Represents MFB in employment matters including employment contracting, wage and hour rules compliance, and in employment litigation and negotiations as needed.

Knowledge of Stark, Anti-kickback, Antitrust and Private Inurement compliance.

Essential Job Qualifications



  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required
  • Active bar license and in good standing in the state of Michigan.


  • Strong knowledge of state and federal labor laws.
  • Knowledge in labor laws and regulations.
  • Supports the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in drafting health care transactions.
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members of the legal team and staff throughout the organization
  • Candidate should possess a minimum of 2-5 years of employment law experience.
