This position is responsible for delivering high-quality academic coaching for students needing additional assistance in Mathematics. Designed to enhance students' understanding of subject matter, improve study skills, and contribute to the students' overall academic achievements, the position may provide Open Lab academic coaching - providing coaching services for students on a walk-in basis in an open lab setting or 1:1 coaching, providing 1:1 coaching by appointment only and specified to a specific content area.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide academic coaching services to students in Mathematics assisting students in understanding and mastering course content, assignments, and projects
- Assist students in developing effective study techniques, time management, note taking, test preparation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and promote independent learning and self-efficacy
- Familiarize students with available educational resources, including but not limited to the library, online materials, and academic support services.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources, such as academic advisors, career services, or counseling
- Provide communication and feedback to instructors and academic support staff regarding student's progress, as well as common areas of difficulty for students
- Stay current with effective academic coaching techniques, specific discipline content, and pedagogical trends
- Provide assistance in training new coaches
- May assist with program recruitment efforts, such as semi-annual Open Houses events
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
-
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of Mathematics on at least a baccalaureate level
- Understanding of pedagogy. Knowledge of working with students learning differences preferred. Proficiency in using educational technology and online resources for coaching sessions.
- Ability to work effectively with students, both in one-on-one and group instruction situations
- Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices
- Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, technical and non-technical information, and listening
- Strong customer service skills, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team and/or with minimal supervision
- Basic level of proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations and/or publishing., learning management systems
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics; Master's degree preferred.
- Training and teaching experience in an educational setting required. Previous teaching experience required.
- In evaluating candidates for this position, the College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position
