The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is a state wide campus, with faculty based on University campuses, at Research and Extension Centers and in every Arkansas county. It consists of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service (CES), and is home to more than 1400 employees. The Division was established in 1959 and is headed by the Vice-President for Agriculture. *Seeks information from mentors and colleagues regarding the history, purpose, and mission of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.
*Works with County Extension Agents to coordinate and implement educational program events and activities, aimed to improve lives and communities in the areas of Agriculture, Family & Consumer Sciences, 4-H youth Development and Community, Policy and Economic Development.
*Participates in meetings where local issues are identified and prioritized, and program results and plans are discussed.
*Assists in preparations for planned events and activities by gathering information, assembling materials, contacting participants, and soliciting support from external sources. As appropriate, conducts the teaching, training, or other program presentation.
*In some cases, the intern may identify and develop a value-added process, program or training tool that may be implemented within the hosting unit's current operations. This contribution should provide a substantial addition to the intern's resume as practical and applicable work experience.
*Maintains a log, or journal outlining internship experiences to complete the required Record of Internship. Completes and submits Record of Internship at the conclusion of the internship.
*Compensation: Interns will work up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of 10 weeks in the summer at an hourly rate of $12.50. Travel will be reimbursed at the current rate of .52 per mile.
*Housing is not provided. However, County faculty may be able to assist in finding an affordable place to live. Qualifications:
  • Students must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at an accredited institution and possess a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale. Priority will be given to those students with a minimum of 30 credit hours at time of application. You must be in good academic standing with the university. An UNOFFICIAL transcript, resume and cover letter are required to be included.
  • Interns must be enrolled in an area of Agriculture, Horticulture, or Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS).
  • Job related travel including overnight stays; visiting clientele at sites throughout the county (including farms); standing/walking for long periods of time; handling of objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals and through mass media. Ability to use the computer for program deliver and management. Ability to visit clientele at sites throughout the county/area/ Ability to plan and teach educational programs. Demonstrated leadership and ability to serve as a positive role model.
