Electrical Specialist

This individual will support the reliable operation of industrial electrical equipment in company owned and operated facilities the West Gulf Coast region. The role will serve as primary support for facilities in the LaPorte, Baytown, and Port Arthur area and secondary support for facilities in Louisiana. The position requires approximately 70%-75% travel away from home and will be based out of the employee's residence.

Job Specific Responsibilities shall include:

  • Read and interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Understand and operate electrical test equipment (DVM, HV tester, low resistance ohmmeter, phase rotation meter, ammeter, insulation resistance tester/megger)
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V and medium voltage control circuits in industrial motor control centers
  • Work independently and in group settings as required
  • Don proper PPE as necessary (up to CAT 4 arc flash suit)
  • This role is a safety sensitive position.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and provide technical assistance for electrical equipment problems within the facilities
  • Develop and execute lockout/tagout/safe work packages for high voltage equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Issue repair reports at the conclusion of critical jobs for proper historical documentation
  • Execute/oversee contractors during equipment maintenance (predictive and preventive)
  • Ensure adherence to internal and national standards for construction and maintenance of equipment
  • Train, coach, and mentor electricians and operations staff in the preventative maintenance and operation of electrical distribution and control systems.
  • 100 % compliance with safety and environmental standards
  • Direct and oversee vendor shop repairs and factory testing of new equipment to ensure quality

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • AA Degree in Electrical/Science Field is a plus
  • A minimum of 5 years electrical experience in operation and maintenance of large industrial plants is required.
  • Formal electrical training is preferred (emphasis on formal technical school training/apprenticeship) Previous experience working on HV substation equipment, protective relays, transformers, HV and LV motors and generators, motor control circuits, variable frequency drives, station batteries, and UPS systems.
  • The position requires approximately 70%-75% travel away from home. This position is residence based. The successful candidate should reside within 1-hour of a major airport.
