Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. What you will be doing as a Labor Industrial Engineer Intern:

The Meijer Store Labor Specialist Internship Program will provide college students with a well-rounded retail educational experience and assist them in developing professional skillsets. Interns will work with the Store Labor team to drive operational productivity, capacity, and efficiency through the development of engineered labor standards. They will also apply industrial engineering concepts to forecast accurate future budgets, including sales, customer counts, and item movement.

At the end of the Store Labor Specialist Internship students will be able to:

  • Develop and maintain engineered labor standards, including time and motions studies, process optimization, and process documentation
  • Work with store operations and scheduling teams to create Standard Operating Procedures based on engineered standards
  • Provide labor-based estimates and comparisons using anticipated business ventures/processes
  • Assess and discuss the human and organizational impacts of major change on an existing operation

The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:

  • Store Analytics
  • Store Operations

Qualifications:

  • Progress toward a bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field
    • 3.0+ GPA preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and other office products
  • Detail-Oriented - Carefully reviews work to ensure accuracy in assumptions and calculations
  • Prior experience working with engineered standards and labor budgeting is a plus
  • Problem Solving - Probes all fruitful sources for answers, and looks beyond the obvious to assemble and interpret data
  • Drive for Results - Has focus on the bottom line
  • Customer Focus - Dedicated to meeting expectations of internal and external customers
  • Relationship Skills - Can create positive working relationships with customers, team members, leadership, and other internal and external constituencies
  • Communication Skills - Conveys the right information in writing and verbally
