Position Summary

The University of New Mexico School of Medicine (SOM) is seeking a motivated individual to serve as a Program Coordinator for the Office for Professional Wellbeing (OPW.) The Office of Professional Wellbeing (OPW) was launched in July of 2019; OPW's mission is to make professional well-being central to UNM SOM's organizational strategy. We provide support and develop initiatives for faculty and learners that improve practice efficiency, enhance a culture of wellness and promote personal resiliency.

The functions, services, and priorities of OPW are to:

  • Provide curriculum and resources to enable physicians and trainees to tend to their personal well-being.
  • Foster a learning environment that recognizes, supports and responds effectively to peers and colleagues needing assistance.
  • Identify, champion and evaluate novel strategies to improve efficiency of practice for students, residents and faculty.
  • Collaborate with colleagues (internally and nationally) to develop and assess the impact of individual and institutional wellness interventions.

This position is responsible for supporting OPW leadership and team members in their efforts to meet the office's missions and goals. In particular, the program coordinator will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating meetings for team members, and scheduling, coordinating, and following up on didactic sessions, lectures, and workshops that are presented by personnel, including those by zoom. This person will support all special events, such as wellness and team-based retreats, open houses, suicide awareness days, and other events, and liaison with other wellbeing offices in the broader Health Sciences consortium. Other responsibilities include fiscal management of the office budget and expenditures, creating and maintaining office websites, and supporting basic statistical support for office surveys and research. This position requires excellent skills in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as with Smartsheets, Cascade for building websites, Adobe Create Suite, and Lucid press for creating flyers and newsletters.

This position provides front desk support by answering telephones, assisting visitors and resolving or referring a range of administrative inquiries.

Conditions of Employment
  • If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office with the ability to build and develop Excel spreadsheets using formulas for research and expense tracking, advanced knowledge of Word to include mail merges, tables, etc. and proficient skills in MS PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with Smartsheet, Zoom, Doodle, Box, and Google Drive
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines in fast-paced working environments and prioritize accordingly
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, analyze and solve problems, and make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments, including when to consult management
  • Experience with event planning and support
  • Capacity to manage an office budget and monitor/plan for expenditures
  • Experience working at UNM Health Sciences Center or the SOM (?)
