Qualifications:

  • Two (2) year AA degree or equivalent experience working in maintenance and management.
  • 10 years' experience in a related industry.
  • 5 years managing related union labor.
  • Journeyman's License as a Millwright preferred.
  • Valid CPR certificate required.
  • Must have valid DL.
  • Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Experience with computerized operating systems.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of local unions dispatching rules.
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.

Work Environment:


  • Exposure to computer screens.
  • Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Superintendent for the night shift is responsible for the maintenance of the equipment operated by the company. This may include equipment owned or leased by the company and/or equipment owned or leased by third parties. This role will assist in developing and directing the maintenance programs for that equipment and the technicians that accomplish the necessary repairs and preventive maintenance of that equipment.


  • Responsible for the directing, improving, implementing and supervising the mechanical maintenance of all Terminal equipment including comprehensive preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for all Terminal equipment mechanical safety and employee safeguarding.
  • Represents Maintenance Department at internal and external safety meeting as required by Management.
  • Design and assume responsibility for all maintenance of equipment under his supervision.
  • May assist with hiring, discipline and termination of all maintenance personnel.
  • Work with all departments to reach operational objectives.
  • Provide input to the company regarding specifications of the operational equipment.
  • Meet regularly with vendors to secure supply and cost objectives.
  • Evaluate and control all maintenance costs.
  • Evaluate maintenance programs to ensure they are accomplishing the intended objectives.
  • Provide training of maintenance personnel to improve performance and skills.
  • Stress workplace safety and training and participation in safety programs.
  • Communicate company policies to all maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in the acquisition of new or replacement equipment and disposition of used equipment.
  • Be familiar with computer control, management, and diagnostic programs that are used on the equipment under your supervision.
  • Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to equipment utilized by the company.
  • All other duties as assigned; including operational assistance as well as vacation coverage as needed on the night shift.
