Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (
CABM) located on the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Campus in Piscataway, NJ.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Teaching Specialist will contribute to investigations in a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology laboratory focused on developing predictive models of transcriptional regulation by integrating large-scale datasets to shed light on regulatory processes that are condition-specific. The Research Teaching Specialist will assist the research of technical personnel and students in the lab, maintain the day-today activities and operations of the lab, as well as run independent projects. The Research Teaching Specialist is expected to maintain a high level of research competency, knowledge, and skills to perform duties assigned by the Principal Investigator.
The Research Teaching Specialist is expected to have experience in conducting and analyzing scientific experiments. The Research Teaching Specialist will conduct high throughput genomic assays and will be expected to perform cloning and preparation of libraries, lenti-virus infections, and preparation of samples for sequencing. The Research Teaching Specialist will be responsible for ordering reagents, supplies, and equipment for the laboratory as well as collaborating with the Principal Investigator in monitoring how the resources are used in the lab. This position will assist with developing and updating laboratory research protocols and is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records documenting experimental design and results.
This is a grant-funded position contingent on the availability of funds to support it.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Conducts specialized research including high-throughput genomic assays such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and Cut&Tag, and performs molecular biology techniques including RNA/DNA extractions, PCR and qPCR, and DNA cloning.
- Perform biochemical procedures for extraction of nucleic acids from bio-specimens, and preparation of libraries and samples for high-throughput sequencing.
- Maintains the day-to-day activities and operations of the laboratory, including ordering reagents/ scientific supplies and equipment, and maintenance of the laboratory's instrumentation and space. Helps to evaluate and improve lab management practices as required.
- Assists with developing and updating laboratory research protocols and is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records documenting experimental design and results.
- Contributes to the preparation of research grant applications, progress reports, and preparation of scientific manuscripts.
- Leads and provides work direction and/or training to students, fellows, technicians and laboratory assistants as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques, cell culture, lentiviral techniques, and high-throughput genomic techniques.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior research experience an asset.
- Advanced Degree in a relevant science is strongly preferred, as is one (1) year of related research experience.
- Prior experience with managing an experimental lab, grant writing, manuscript preparation, and mentoring experience.

- Physical Demands: Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for standard laboratory operations including pipetting and use of microscopes. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Work Environment: Lab environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
