Stanley Consultants is seeking a highly energetic and entrepreneurial person who enjoys working in a team environment to lead and build our water instrumentation & controls (I&C), SCADA and digital water consulting services initiative through business development and project delivery. The position serves in a "seller/do-er" role, with a main focus of matching technology and data integration solutions to client challenges via consulting engagements. The successful candidate will be well-versed in the US water market, understand utility business operations, and have a firm grasp of emerging innovations and technologies that can disrupt the way professional planning, engineering, and construction management services are delivered and elevate our standing as the preferred consultant of our clients. This role will primarily focus on leveraging the existing local team and national water/wastewater practice members for the delivery of new I&C, SCADA and digital municipal water and wastewater projects. A mark of success in this role will be working with geographically assigned Client Service Managers (CSMs), specialty consultants, and our technology partners to identify, sell, and deliver I&C, SCADA and digital water projects.

The position is tailored to support the corporate strategic plan's implementation and is needed to advance our strong and existing I&C and SCADA practice and our new and unique digital water market strategy. The successful candidate will need to be aligned with the corporate strategy and culture. The successful candidate must possess and maintain deep expertise in the water market, and specifically: integrated asset performance & efficiencies, utility performance requirements, digital transformation & maturity, and the value of innovation ecosystems overall. The role will work in close partnership with the Water Market Leader and our technology partners to create and execute the water market's digital go-to-market stage of implementation and will continue water market strategic plan development, roadmap development, prioritization, and negotiation support. The position will conduct research and due diligence on digital technologies and implementation methods, lead/support customer identification and lead digital maturity assessment efforts.

What You Will Be Doing:



  • Support Stanley's existing I&C and SCADA water practice
  • Support Stanley's digital water go-to-market strategy
  • Lead sales and project implementation for I&C, SCADA and digital water market
  • Listen to client needs relative to digital/smart water solutions that are available to address them.
  • Serve as lead project manager for Stanley's digital water initiatives, coordinating the activities of data integrators, I&C engineers, data scientists, and civil/environmental engineers in the delivery of digital water solutions.
  • Develop and lead customer identification and prioritization (sales pipeline)
  • Support CSMs, outside specialty consultants, and Water Market Leader in direct selling to clients of service and partnership offerings
  • Conduct research to stay abreast of smart water technologies and competitor capabilities
  • Support CSM's to initiate, develop, and maintain close public and private client relationships at local, state, and national levels
  • Leverages internal technical experts to gain footholds with new clients
  • Leads or assists in the preparation of proposals, presentations, and contract procedures
  • Leads or assists with client relations and participates in project delivery as required
  • Actively participates in professional organizations focusing on digital water at the local, regional, and national levels
  • Develops and implements creative and innovative approaches to project development
  • Identifies target customers and conducts multi-channel outreach to convert prospects to sales including networking, cold calling, professional social media such as LinkedIn and other methods
  • Leverages an existing network of water utility leaders and managers to build a pipeline of opportunities and convert them to sales
  • Update and maintain leads, contacts and sales pipeline in the company CRM systems


Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in innovation, project management, operations and delivery in water/wastewater or related public environment, including understanding of business development
  • Possess knowledge of water/wastewater infrastructure, and the processes that clients go through to plan, finance, design, and construct it.
  • Possess and maintain an understanding of water resources (storm water and flood control) infrastructure
  • High ethical standards, unquestionably trustworthy
  • The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with clients in the water sector
  • Must have demonstrated success in understanding the water technology and innovation markets
  • Must be capable of directing and managing a multi-discipline team
  • Dedicated to quality - "must do it right".
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills



Base Compensation: $150,000 - $190,000

Stanley Consultants is committed to maintaining transparency in our hiring process, including providing information about compensation. The starting salary for the successful candidate in this position is competitive and will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, geographic location, internal equity, company policy and practices.

Stanley's Approach to Flexibility

While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home. Eligible roles can also offer a compressed workweek schedule. Members who participate will be assigned a 9/80 work schedule, meaning every other Friday off!
