About the Job
The Operating Room Service Coordinator serves as the leader of each individual Surgical Service. The ORSC oversees clinical, educational and operational needs of the respective service. Leadership competencies are demonstrated through ICARE values, fiscal responsibility, clinical excellence and team development.

What you will do

  • Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, CPD, MDT and others to plan, coordinate and execute surgical procedures and overall surgical schedule in specialty area.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in service and other services in both circulator and scrub role.
  • Demonstrates leadership in the specialty by educating, precepting and collaborating with staff to ensure success in clinical, operational and educational aspects.
  • Works on the leadership team to plan strategy and vision while also assisting with daily unit operations and clinical assignments. Aligns schedule with Leader On Call expectations per guidelines.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Perioperative Nurse - Operating Room Nurse Certification (CNOR) - Various - - Preferred
  • CPN Preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree Nursing Preferred

Experience

  • At least five (5) years circulator/scrub experience Required
  • At least five (5) years Circulator/ Scrub Nurse Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Clinical
  • Acts as unit practice specialist for service using evidence, AORN standards and other resources in order to ensure high quality care in both scrub and circulator role
  • Coordination of highly complex surgical cases or new procedures (ie conjoined twins, LTRs, brachial plexus program, free flaps/limb reconstruction Rosa, etc)
  • Preference card creation maintenance
  • Ongoing collaboration with CPD to ensure daily instrumentation needs are fulfilled
  • Ensure preventative maintenance and servicing of all OR equipment
  • Uses Data to drive decision making
  • Operational
  • Resource for surgical schedule- timing allocation, staffing needs, equipment needs, etc
  • Inventory of instruments and accessories as well as ancillary supplies related to designated service
  • Maintain and update the OR/Hospital policies/ procedures of service-specific surgery.
  • Act as a liaison between CHOP OR and Vendors/ Companies for services, equipment, supplies
  • Educational
  • Promotes a culture of safety and ongoing learning
  • Coordination of trials for equipment, instruments and supplies for new surgical techniques
  • Provides and shares expertise on surgical supplies and equipment, hospital IS systems
  • Provide educational support for OR staff via in-service training, precepting, vendor training as needed to ensure proficiency and provide up to date knowledge of service specific topics

To carry out its mission, it is of critical importance for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to keep our patients, families and workforce safe and healthy and to support the health of our global community. In keeping with this, CHOP has mandated all workforce members on site at any CHOP location for any portion of their time be vaccinated for COVID-19. This mandate also applies to workforce members performing work for CHOP at non-CHOP locations. The CHOP COVID-19 vaccine mandate is in alignment with applicable local, state and federal mandates.

CHOP also requires all workforce members who work in patient care buildings or who provide patient care to receive an annual influenza vaccine. Employees may request exemption consideration for CHOP vaccine requirements for valid religious and medical reasons.

Please note start dates may be delayed until candidates are fully immunized or valid exemption requests are reviewed. In addition, candidates other than those in positions with regularly scheduled hours in New Jersey, must attest to not using tobacco products.
