SUMMARY
This position is responsible for installing, repairing, modifying, and opening a variety of locking mechanisms
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Establishes keying system for buildings.
  • Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces work tumblers, springs and other parts or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling, and grinding.
  • Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or by drilling.
  • Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine.
  • Changes combinations by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock.
  • Opens safe locks by drilling.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirements for this position include a High School Diploma or equivalent GED plus experience in mechanical and/or carpentry with a minimum of one year as a locksmith apprentice. A valid Texas Driver's License, and ability to pass a Department of Homeland Security background check is required. Experience responding to and completing repairs on Maintenance Work Orders.

  • Skill in oral and written communications.



COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers and staff members in English. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees, and customers.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally be required to lift more than 50 pounds. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment will require on-call rotation. The employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold, heat, and inclement weather. The work may require the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, and/or gloves.


A Background and Drug Screening will be performed for this position.
