Job Overview

Assists professional staff (RNs, RDs, NPs, MDs) in providing optimal nutritional care to neonates and infants through the safe handling, storage and preparation of human milk, and through basic education to inpatients, and outpatients.

Shift: 2x10 hour shifts with some weekends and holidays required

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - High school diploma, or equivalency.
  • EXPERIENCE - Prior healthcare-related experience.
  • CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS required. CNA, MA, EMT or Lactation certification required.
Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE

  • a.) Neonate - <30 days
  • b.) Infancy - >30 days to 1yr
  • c.) Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

  • Receives expressed milk from mothers who are dropping off and stores expressed mother's milk (EMM).
  • Scans all human milk at various intervals to ensure accurate tracking and safe delivery.
  • Ensures appropriate education to parents for proper labeling, transport and storage.
  • Retrieves daily orders for feeding and prepares according to medical orders.
  • Distributes prepared human milk feedings to the bedside refrigerators at the appropriate intervals.
  • Provides basic milk expression education to inpatients, outpatients and by telephone.
  • Cleans and sterilizes the equipment used for milk preparation and any other reusable feeding equipment daily.
  • Cleans and disinfects preparation areas.
  • Ensures that refrigerators in prep room and bedside locations are functioning within appropriate temperature ranges.
  • Receives and maintains donated human milk from the community for delivery to the Mother's Milk Bank of Colorado.
  • Tracks and maintains a breast pump rental/loan program for families and staff.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $34,796.81 to $52,195.21
Hourly Salary Range: $16.73 to $25.09
