Engineering Internship - Track Testing - Summer 2025 (Paid)

Internship Summary:

CSX is a Fortune 250 company seeking future business leaders to help foster growth, efficiency and innovation. The selected intern will contribute over a ten-week immersion into Operations as experienced through CSX methods and culture. This individual will complete challenging real-world assignments, working hand in hand with leaders across the company to support its strategic messages and exposure to corporate leadership. This internship provides an opportunity for candidates to gain market experience at a dynamic, large-cap company while allowing CSX to actively recruit tomorrow's best talent.

This position will work with data from Track Geometry Cars and analyze data from Machine Vision systems regarding rail, tie, anchoring, and fasteners on heavy tonnage track. This information will identify changes over time that can be used in predictive analytics for the Engineering Services group within the Engineering department. It will also analyze system track testing data to look for trends to help aid the field Maintenance of Way managers by getting the information to the right people in the right way that can be acted upon to lower risk on the CSX network. This program is a paid 10-week internship and will be based in Jacksonville, FL.

Internship Details:



  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 27, 2025 and ending August 1, 2025. (Location: CSX HQ or minimal hybrid/remote)
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria

  • The Summer Internship Program will include:

    • Cross-functional learning, Local Onsite Visits, Executive Networking Sessions and Lunch & Learns and more



Primary Activities and Responsibilities:



  • Data harvesting and analytics
  • Visualize data using PowerBI
  • Identifying trends and predicting results
  • Local field visits to understand processes
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Engineering Bachelor's degree in progress through an accredited institution or related major field of study
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Major or Concentration in Engineering or Science (Civil, Industrial, Data,.....), or a related major field of study
  • Anticipated graduation within a year after the end of the internship
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4-point scale)


Knowledge and Skills:



  • Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory standards a plus
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) skills such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Data analytics ability is needed
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerBI ability
  • Analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to independently manage assignments


Job Requirements:



  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non- standard workweek)
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, safety vest, and safety glasses
  • Communicate effectively
  • Work within established deadlines
  • Willing and able to work different shifts as assigned in a 24/7 operation (including weekends and holidays)
  • Successfully complete a background check and drug test
