Internship Summary:

CSX is a Fortune 250 company seeking future business leaders to help foster growth, efficiency and innovation. The selected intern will contribute over a ten week immersion into Operations as experienced through CSX methods and culture. This individual will complete challenging real-world assignments, working hand in hand with leaders across the company to support its strategic messages and exposure to corporate leadership. This internship provides an opportunity for candidates to gain market experience at a dynamic, large-cap company while allowing CSX to actively recruit tomorrow's best talent.

Internship opportunity with the Bridges, Design & Construction team. The intern must have a passion for civil engineering, construction, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior leadership.

Internship Details:



  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 27, 2025 and ending August 1, 2025. (Location: CSX HQ or minimal hybrid/remote)
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria
  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Up to 5% travel
  • The Summer Internship Program will include:

    • Cross-functional learning, Local Onsite Visits, Executive Networking Sessions and Lunch & Learns and more



Primary Activities and Responsibilities:



  • 25% - Develop conceptual plans and estimates for senior level approval
  • 25% - Assist in line capacity reviews towards project specific signal engineering, structural engineering, and civil engineering plans with Design Engineers
  • 25% - Participate in onsite project site inspections with Construction Engineers
  • 20% - Review Industrial Development project plans and estimates
  • 5% - Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Candidate must be an undergraduate enrolled at an accredited college or university who is in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Anticipated graduation within a year after the end of the internship
  • Candidate must be an undergraduate enrolled at an accredited college or university who is in the process of obtaining a bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4-point scale)


Knowledge and Skills:



  • Railroad Industry knowledge
  • Construction Industry knowledge
  • CADD drafting skills
  • Route Surveying skills & knowledge


Job Requirements:



  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non- standard workweek)
  • Work at elevated heights at times
  • Wear protective equipment such as: hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, safety vest, and safety glasses
  • Successfully complete a background check and drug test


Environmental Conditions



  • Work in an office environment
  • Up to 5% Travel estimated
