Engineering Internship - Engineering Operations - Summer 2025 (Paid)

Internship Summary:

CSX is a Fortune 250 company seeking future business leaders to help foster growth, efficiency and innovation. The selected intern will contribute over a ten week immersion into Operations as experienced through CSX methods and culture. This individual will complete challenging real-world assignments, working hand in hand with leaders across the company to support its strategic messages and exposure to corporate leadership. This internship provides an opportunity for candidates to gain market experience at a dynamic, large-cap company while allowing CSX to actively recruit tomorrow's best talent.

This position will identify, analyze, forecast, and manage material flow for the Engineering department. It will also analyze system production and capital planning information in order to provide break even analysis in track welding, statistical analysis of and study of best size fit teams etc. This program is a paid 10 week internship and will based in Jacksonville, FL.

Internship Details:



  • This is a 10 Week Summer Internship Program starting on May 27, 2025 and ending August 1, 2025. (Location: CSX HQ or minimal hybrid/remote)
  • CSX provides optional intern housing for the duration of the 10-week program, as long as the selected intern meets eligibility criteria
  • Competitive hourly pay
  • Up to 10% travel
  • The Summer Internship Program will include:

    • Cross-functional learning, Local Onsite Visits, Executive Networking Sessions and Lunch & Learns and more



Primary Activities and Responsibilities:



  • Scheduling & Capacity Planning- Create procurement requirements for all raw materials and develop forecasts based on business intelligence with collaboration from Finance
  • Supply Network Strategy - Building and modelling the supply chain to understand the costs and time to bring goods and services to market
  • Logistics Management - Develop and execute a comprehensive logistics and distribution plan to drive optimal customer service with the lowest cost
  • Field Study - Site visits and evaluation of production teams
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Engineering Bachelor's degree in progress through an accredited institution or related major field of study
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Major or Concentration in Engineering (Civil, Industrial, etc.), or a related major field of study
  • Anticipated graduation within a year after the end of the internship
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 (based on a 4-point scale)


Knowledge and Skills:



  • Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulatory standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership/executive audiences
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) skills such as AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Data analytics ability
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); Strong Microsoft Excel ability
  • Analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to independently manage assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build working relationships at all levels of an organization


Job Requirements:



  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non- standard workweek)
  • Work outside in all weather conditions
  • Wear protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, safety vest, and safety glasses
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership/executive audiences
  • Work within established deadlines
  • Willing and able to work different shifts as assigned in a 24/7 operation (including weekends and holidays)
  • Successfully complete a background check and drug test
