Job Summary

Uses a deep understanding of SQL Server programming to perform computer programming tasks, writing, testing, and optimizing code, documenting workflows, and creating technical documentation to ensure systems operate efficiently and meet end-user needs. Assists with system and data analysis to quickly troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to applications and application code. Facilitates the extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various sources into the data warehouse. Provides direct written and verbal technical support to end-users and staff, leveraging technical skills to address and resolve issues and requests.

The salary range is $67,340 - 96,891 (12-months/260 days)

This position may allow for a hybrid remote work schedule (work from home for a portion of the workweek) within the state of Wisconsin.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years programming experience is required.
  • Strong SQL skills are fundamental to all aspects of this role with experience writing and understanding complex queries, functions, and stored procedures.
  • Experience with ETL processes and data warehousing.
  • Proficiency in using SSMS or equivalent tools for querying, managing, and analyzing databases.
  • Experience with writing and deploying SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages is a plus.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in analyzing and understanding existing codebases, including deciphering complex code structures and identifying key components and logic.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications to enhance productivity and support team collaboration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug data, software, and system issues with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Exhibits the ability to break down complex problems into manageable parts.
  • Basic project management skills to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, timelines, and workload effectively.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Capability to document workflows and write technical and system specifications.
  • Evidence of strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Motivation to learn new technologies quickly with minimal support and guidance.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and follow instructions.
Responsibilities

  • Ability to write, test, and maintain code according to operational guidelines, best practices, and district standards.
  • Participates in writing and optimizing SQL queries to retrieve data for analysis, reporting and distribution to end-users under the direction of more senior programmers and analysts.
  • Interprets, reviews, and makes modifications to pre-existing code structures.
  • Integrates data from multiple sources, including databases, flat files, and external systems.
  • Analyzes and documents system requirements, workflows, and data warehouse processes.
  • Develops procedures and scripts for data migration.
  • Assists in coding, debugging, and testing nightly build procedures and data warehouse integrations.
  • Troubleshooting code and software applications to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Monitoring and enforcing data quality standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of data.
  • Implementing data validation and cleansing routines to correct data discrepancies in the data warehouse.
  • Learns new technologies and maintains familiarity with existing application languages demonstrating ability to adapt to changing requirements or environments.
  • Participates in professional training activities as directed.
  • Ensures compliance with all district policies, data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Attends meetings as requested to provide technical expertise and advice.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs additional tasks and duties as required.
