Electrical Power Generator - Field Service Technician

Description

Holt CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Power Generator - Field Service Technician for our Irving, Texas location. This position is responsible for providing troubleshooting and high-quality repair service on power generation, gas and diesel engines, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches), in order to respond to customers, needs in a positive, safe and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed. The hours of the position are Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM. Possible overtime, including weekends. Daily travel and overnight travel is required throughout Texas. A sign on bonus is available of up to $5,000 for those qualified.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices on a daily basis: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development.

Essential Functions:



  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Performs intermediate repairs and troubleshooting offsite with minimal supervision
  • Performs intermediate troubleshooting, diagnoses of equipment malfunctions, and failure analysis
  • Removes and install parts, disassembles and assembles components to CAT specifications
  • Tests, makes adjustments, and verifies proper operation of all repairs and adjustments
  • Prepares and completes all job related documents, writes service reports, orders parts, and maintains clear customer records; in addition, accesses databases required to complete job
  • Acts as a team leader and mentors/coaches
  • Participates in the quotation of work orders
  • Operates equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates
  • Maintains service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections and driver logs as required by the Department of Transportation
  • Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
  • Maintains all company equipment, tools, and vehicle in a good, clean, and working order
  • Communicates job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
  • Completes assigned jobs and task to meet flat rate time and re-work standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs
  • Completes all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
  • Projects professionalism with both internal and external customers, including personal appearance; may be relied upon to act as a mentor to lower-level Technicians
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices of running load banks on natural gas and diesel generators
  • Rewire, adjust and install control panels and test voltage regulators
  • Adjust speed controls and various settings
  • Intermediate knowledge of generator control panels, automatic transfer switches, synchronize and parallel operation
  • Knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Intermediate knowledge of EPG Equipment
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and knowledge of machine electronic systems
  • Exceptional skills in customer service
  • Intermediate diagnostic and trouble-shooting skills
  • Planning and organizing skills to prioritize and plan work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources
  • Operation and control skills of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a crane and forklift, and obtain required certifications/licenses
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under fast-paced, time constraining circumstances
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects


Education and Experience:



  • More than four years of Power Generation Equipment experience required; six or more years preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • MSHA certification preferred
  • Crane/Rigger certifications preferred


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None


Travel:



  • Travel required with a possibility of an overnight stay


Additional Requirements:



  • Valid Driver's license required
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and must have an acceptable driving record
  • Must own required tools to perform repairs


Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to move objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb
  • Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
  • Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
  • Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
  • Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work


Work Environment:



  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Regularly works outdoors around moving mechanical parts and noise level may be loud at times
  • May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity
  • Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipment
  • Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places
