WithumSmith+Brown is seeking accounting majors who graduated in Spring 2025 or graduating Summer 2025 to start November 2025in our dynamic State and Local Tax practice. These positions offer the opportunity to work directly with other accounting professionals in performing state and local tax engagements for our diverse client base.
Along with a team supervised by a Manager or Partner, you will:


  • Prepare a variety of sales and income tax returns
  • Register clients with various state agencies
  • Research and resolve inquiries from tax jurisdictions and clients
  • Be highly responsive to clients and various government tax agencies regarding notices and requests for information
  • Apply critical thinking to research nexus, sourcing, and taxability for all jurisdictions in various industries
  • Remain current on new tax legislation and tax guidance from states
  • Identify, assess, and document the tax implications of any such changes
  • Assist clients with defending audits from various states
  • Analyze and review client accounting records and financial statements as needed for state and local tax purposes
  • Assist clients with all state and local tax issues
  • Ability to work on a wide range of state and local tax issues


Qualifications:



  • Graduated or graduating college student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Ability to commute to one of our office locations
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills

Those graduating with 150 credits and who have had a prior internship with a public accounting firm, preferred.

For positions in New York City, the compensation for this position ranges from $70,000- $80,000. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
