Job Description

The Johnson County Planning and Development Department seeks to fill an opening for an Education & Event Coordinator (Training II) within the building codes division.

This position will remain open until 9:00 pm, September 25, 2024.

Duties include:

    Plans, and evaluates continuing education and training sessions; establishes standards for programming content; audit programs to ensure alignment with established standards; creates strategic goals for systemwide programming which align with organizational strategic plan; establishes metrics for program evaluation; analyzes data to measure programming effectiveness; reports impact of programming to administration; creates standards for program description and promotion; evaluates and edit content provided by programming staff for promotional efforts; establishes expectations for program and event promotions; troubleshoots problems with registration and course completion; assists in content creation and revision using e-learning platforms.
  • Assists in the revision of training curricula submitted for course approvals to be reviewed by the CLRB Education Committee; assists in identification of training needs; assists setting learning objectives and tasks; organizes and prints course materials, handouts, and PowerPoints according to course objectives; measures the effect of training; leads program planning efforts for the organization in coordination with Contractor Licensing Program Manager; develops systemwide programming as a coordinated theme; oversees consideration of stakeholder expectations in the design of programming.
  • Creates and coordinates annual continuing education and training schedule according to the training needs of contractors, building code officials and their direct reports, and in anticipation of current and future projects in the built environment; maintains learning transcripts and training plans; edits, prepares, and distributes evaluation surveys; processes reports on survey results and provides recommendations to appropriate parties; tracks and monitors training attendance for compliance with policy and regulatory agencies; monitors supply inventory and orders supplies; creates and disseminates reports; develops and maintains organizational communications such as bulletin boards and newsletters to ensure licensees have knowledge of all training and development events and resources; represents events and programs to external stakeholders and constituents; represents events and programs to Planning stakeholders, and the Planning Board; maintains standards for presenter visits; establishes, maintains, and evaluates procedures for internal and external communication regarding programming; communicates systemwide expectations to programming staff; provides input into the training and development of programming staff.
  • Researches and recommends equipment and vendors and prices; determines substitutes for supplies and routine equipment; verifies the accuracy of and updates the department equipment and/or fixed asset inventory; authorizes requests for goods and services; monitors contract compliance and may act as Purchasing Card manager; coordinates the allocation of material, staffing and budget resources for programs in collaboration with the Contractor Licensing Program Manager; aligns programming calendar with strategic resource allocation; recommends budget changes to administration; allocates budget to programming teams in coordination with the Contractor Licensing Program Manager; schedules hotels and transportation for continuing education and training events and communicates regularly with all parties; independently composes original correspondence for senior management's review and signature; produces schedules for everyday activities; and assigns responsibilities to the right people for special events.
  • Administers the event budget; builds an adequate operating budget to support events in conjunction with Contractor Licensing Program Manager; works with the Contractor Licensing Program Manager to design an efficient system for utilizing supplemental funding from outside donors; uses spreadsheets or databases to interpret and organize resource information; provides customized reports to others in the work unit; recommends changes to department/agency administrative policies, procedures, and methods; reviews and approves disbursement forms; maintains compliance for International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accreditation; supports and serves on training, customer service, or other related committees; gives strategic input on continuing education and training.
  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with program presenters; serves as a point of contact during training; acts as an event host; measures progress and evaluating effectiveness of training; directs professional and support staff as assigned for continuing education/training events.


Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Organizational Development, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Human Resources, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Instructional Design and Technology, Business Education or relevant field is required.

Two (2) years of relevant experience is also required.

Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP); or relevant certification preferred.
