TheChemist helps lead our quality assurance mission via execution of a variety of standard chemical assays and determinations of different substances and materials.The role requires the understanding of diverse principles and techniques; undertakes infrequently performed and specialized analyses, either individually or as a part of a group; modifies methods to resolve problems related to routine determinations; and prepares and assure accuracy of standards. The Chemist may undertake advanced analytical work with a minimum of preliminary instruction; modify methods for non-routine problems; assist with method development; and coordinate the work of a small group within the section as necessary. The Chemist may be required to perform complex analytical work often involving problem-solving situations; participate in projects or method development, usually as a team member of a small group; test or evaluate methods and protocols for adequacy under the direction of higher-level scientists; write narrative reports of completed or proposed work as requested; and occasionally interpret and explain such work to in-house staff, clients, and other outside contacts.
