The Biotechnology Undergraduate Program in the Department of Plant Biology at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Rutgers University invites applicants for a Part time lecturer teaching position on the New Brunswick/Cook Campus for Spring 2025, beginning in January and ending in May. The position will be responsible for teaching a section of the course called
Molecular Genetics Laboratory, a junior/senior level, 4 credit lecture/laboratory course within the Biotechnology curriculum.
Course content investigates laboratory methods used to investigate the genetics of prokaryotic (bacteria) and eukaryotic (yeast) organisms. Methods include conducting mutagenesis using chemicals, transposons and gene deletion; cloning by heterologous expression and by complementation; and conducting genetic crosses to create new phenotypes.
The successful candidate will report to the Undergraduate Program Director in Biotechnology and the Department Chair in Plant Biology, and will be required to administer and instruct the course in person on the
SEBS-Rutgers campus. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
MS or PhD Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related discipline. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
A basic knowledge of genetics, molecular biology and microbiology of bacteria and yeast and the associated laboratory techniques. Sufficient knowledge in the areas of genetics, genomics, and molecular biology to connect the lecture components with laboratory exercises. |

Overview |
Molecular Genetics Laboratory is part of a three-course series requirement for Biotechnology majors taken during their junior and senior years. Learning goals for the course are assessed using quizzes, exams, written weekly lab analyses, lab reports and an oral presentation. |
