Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

The Project Manager will have an important role in supporting the management, scheduling, coordination, and organization of projects and programs for Aireon's space-based ADS-B surveillance system. Reporting to the Director, Program Management, the Project Manager will be involved with all phases of the project and program life cycle: Concept, Planning, Execution, and Transfer. Communication and adeptness at working with a variety of personalities and skillsets across multiple organizations and locations will also be a key part of this role.

What You'll Do

    Develop and maintain integrated plans to ensure timely monitoring of program and project activities on a regular basis and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate
  • Work closely with Aireon implementation engineering, system engineering, and operations teams to develop and execute multi-year projects and programs
  • Work with various stakeholders and functional leads to timely identify dependencies, issues, and risks across projects
  • Coordinate and schedule project meetings including taking notes, actions and following up with participants
  • Support engineering and operations management in the development of processes and procedures for the team to ensure completion of milestones within specific budgets and schedules
  • Monitor project progress continuously and develop reports on measurable items, such as milestones and deliverables
  • Assist in the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks/issues to support safety, security, technical, and program objectives
  • Liaise with other project managers and partners to ensure the effective and efficient program delivery

Required Qualifications

  • Working experience with project management and product management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, MS Project, Confluence, etc.)
  • Experience with the development and management of project, program, and Integrated Master Schedules
  • Experience with Agile and traditional project scheduling and tracking processes
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with ability to proactively build rapport among stakeholders
  • Able to succeed in high-pressure, fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and competitive environment
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Working experience in Aviation or Aerospace industry a plus
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management support role
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • U.S. Citizenship Required

1-3-6-12 Month Plan

  • Get onboarded and train with your manager
  • Get acclimated into the role and its matrix function
  • Understand the tools, different stakeholders and customers, and engineering organization
  • Develop working rapport with engineering and operations management

At 3 months we'll expect you to...

  • Establish initial performance goals
  • Be knowledgeable of the system architecture, data delivery methods, and customer base
  • Begin learning engineering and operations processes and timelines
  • Collate presentation materials for senior leadership meetings and assist with capturing and tracking meeting actions

At 6 months we'll expect you to...

  • Assume responsibility for tracking team actions and deliverables
  • Develop and maintain project schedules
  • Develop collaborative relationships with relevant internal and external teams
  • Assist in team resource planning activities
  • Coordinate project risk management activities with the risk manager

At 12 months we'll expect you to...

  • Facilitate collaboration among engineers and other team members
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget
  • Integrate schedules for test, developments, operations and/or customer implementation activities
  • Monitor resources to ensure project efficiency and maximize deliverables
  • Monitor the progress of multiple projects and identify areas in which the team could be more productive or produce higher quality products or services
  • Work collaboratively with the risk manager to identify, assess and, where required, develop mitigations of risks
  • Assist the teams in meeting deadlines and constantly strive for improvement

About the Team

  • This position is within the Aireon Engineering and Operations Department, which consists of more than 85 employees
  • The position will reside within the Program Management Office (PMO) directorate, which currently has four team members
    • The PMO team members operate out of Aireon headquarters in McLean, VA and rely on a flexible, hybrid work model
  • Teams stay connected through recurring team meetings, one-on-one meetings, company all-hands meetings, and corporate events.
