Overview of the role

We are seeking a dynamic, analytical person for the West Elm's Brand Finance division. This position is responsible for providing financial, analytical, and business decision support for short-term and long-term planning. An ideal candidate will bring financial experience, analytical capabilities, an eagerness to learn and collaborate, and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position reports into the Brand Finance Manager.

Responsibilities



  • Develop annual budget and monthly forecast for e-commerce business, marketing channels, and general expenses for the brand
  • Manage month-end close process including journal entries, expense accruals, and variance analysis to reconcile actual results against forecast
  • Create, prepare and continuously enhance key reporting packages for various brand partners to provide visibility into financial performance and drivers
  • Identify and analyze ad hoc business issues, and collaborate with key partners across the organization to actively influence brand P&L performance
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners, communicating effectively in a variety of settings and ensuring partners are well informed and aligned with the brand's financial goals
  • Support broader brand finance team by developing new tools to enhance financial modeling and analytics across the business
  • Develop Powerpoint presentations for budget review, ad hoc brand initiatives, etc.

  • 1-4 years of experience in corporate finance, banking, accounting, planning, or similar technical analytical role
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a quantitative field (finance, economics, business)
  • Strong analytical skills - extensive experience with Excel building financial models, forecasts and analysis from scratch
  • Creative problem solving and strategic thinking skills - able to delve into business issues and large amounts of data to form insights and recommendations.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects with a high degree of ambiguity in a fast-paced setting.
  • Results oriented - strong sense of urgency and excellent follow through.
  • Solid interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with non-financial partners and present a cohesive story to senior leaders
  • Understanding of financial analysis concepts as well as a solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Working knowledge of standard financial applications preferred: Hyperion (SmartView and Essbase), Oracle ERP, or equivalent
  • Ability to work onsite in the Brooklyn office Monday - Thursday and work remotely on Fridays.

The expected starting pay range for this position is $75,000 -$85,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
