Position Description

Job title: Director of HR

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Scope: The Director of Human Resources is responsible to plan, manage, implement and administer the full range of human resources systems and programs including employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, training, compliance, and performance management systems, involving a considerable focus on coaching and management development. The HR Director will be responsible for applying business knowledge and multi-state human resources expertise for Florida, New Jersey, Minnesota, Indiana, Texas, and California.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Participate with senior leadership in defining strategy, and recommending, formulating and establishing company policies, plans, operating procedures, and goals relating to human resources impacting issues; counsel senior management with regard to matters relating to compensation, benefits, team performance and organizational structure
  • Monitor employee relations activities and morale
  • Provide counseling, coaching and guidance to management staff regarding policies, regulations, expected behaviors and other employment related matters of significance to ensure productive and professional staff management
  • Manage documentation of personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, terminations and disciplinary measures
  • Assist legal counsel with employment investigation matters
  • Manage and maintain worker's compensation files and claims
  • Implement safety and workers' compensation programs with ABC operational management
  • Oversee DOT compliance and drivers files
  • Oversee Drug & Alcohol administration, including quarterly randoms
  • Oversee & approve invoices from various vendors and providers on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Oversee development and maintenance of system wide organizational charts
  • Direct the organization's recruitment and employment function, where staffing is primarily conducted by human resources staff; establish employment policies and communicate policy, procedure and regulation to hiring management staff
  • Oversee onboarding process; direct the development, management and maintenance of job descriptions
  • Oversee the administration of Family & Medical Leave, Worker's compensation, OSHA
  • Work with key leaders to define goals for management and staff development
  • Design, select and implement training and development programs to meet business objectives
  • Develop skills, and to communicate business values, philosophy and behavioral expectations throughout the organization
  • Conduct due diligence through the investigation of the human resources issues, compliance concerns, & employee relations
  • Oversee and manage the organization's compensation and benefits policies in keeping with overall business philosophy, expectations and objectives.
  • Oversee the management of the annual open enrollment process for health insurance and other benefits.
  • Direct the solicitation for new and revised benefit programs and determine which combination of programs best implement organizational rewards strategy and philosophy and meet business objectives.
  • Direct the management, communication and maintenance of benefit systems
  • Manage and maintain the organization's performance management system.
  • Direct management and staff training related to performance management and ensure that the system results in effectively measuring and improving employee job performance at all levels
  • Manage the process to ensure compliance with legal and governmental regulations affecting the human resource functions.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to senior leadership and to management, to include Affirmative Action Plan and EEO-1.
  • Act as primary contact with internal labor counsel.
  • Work with the internal legal counsel on the maintenance of employee handbook
  • Interview, select, hire, train and manage human resources staff. Assign and check work, provide technical direction to staff and assist them in the investigation and resolution of problems, evaluate performance and provide counseling and coaching to employees.
  • Stay current on HR trends and regulations.
  • Initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, terminations, or disciplinary measures. Maintain harmonious employee/employer relations
  • Needs to be comfortable with travel 10% of the time.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements (including education and certifications):


  • Bachelor's Degree required in Human Resources or similar field; Master's Degree preferred
  • 10+ years' experience in management of Human Resources and department


Preferences:


  • Multi-State and/or Canada experience preferred
  • Implementation experience in Payroll, HR, and Recruiting systems preferred
  • DOT experience preferred


Physical Demands:


  • Ability to move items weighing at least 15 pounds
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Frequently moves about to other locations/offices
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
