Position Description

The Division of Community Health and Intervention Research within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking to hire one postdoctoral researcher with a focus on implementation science and health equity. The fellow will work with a team of investigators to develop an Implementation Science and Health Equity training program for early career researchers. This is a 12-month position with opportunity for renewal based on performance and funding.

The successful candidate will work with Drs. Katherine Quinn and Steven John, as well as other investigators, to support the establishment of a new training program at the nexus of implementation science and health equity. The fellow will be expected to participate in developing formal training activities, supporting measurement and evaluation efforts, and pursuing an independent line of research involving Implementation Science and Health Equity within Wisconsin.

Primary Functions

  • Identify and develop formal training activities for the proposed training program
  • Develop and help oversee evaluation activities
  • Propose and/or establish an independent line of research within Implementation Science & Health Equity
  • Maintain scientific progress via dissemination of peer reviewed papers and conference presentations.
  • Participate in required fellowship training program development activities and team meetings.

Characteristics of a Postdoctoral Appointment at MCW:

It is expected that postdocs at MCW, with the assistance of their supervisor, will:

  • Transition to career independence through the development of professional skills that enable the postdoc to actively pursue a career of their own choosing.
  • Be supervised by at least one senior scholar who actively promotes the postdoc's professional development.
  • Establish an individual development plan (IDP) that incorporates equally the postdoc's career and training goals and the mentor's research goals.
  • Pursue basic, clinical, or translational projects so long as effort is focused primarily on research.
  • Publish results of the postdoc's research and scholarship during their appointment.
  • The postdoctoral appointment is temporary by nature, the aggregate amount of time spent as a postdoc is recommended to not exceed five years (not including family medical leave or maternity/paternity leave).
  • As postdocs are important members of the host institution's community, appropriate levels of compensation, health care, and other benefits commensurate with their essential status should be afforded, independent of the postdoc's source of funding.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Required knowledge: strong data analysis skills (quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed-methods), demonstrated research expertise, critical thinking, writing skills, and familiarity with common research programs and platforms.

Skills and abilities: expertise within a scientific field of study that can progress to an independent line of research.

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, NP, or MD) or ABD within a related field including but not limited to public health, medicine, social work, nursing, psychology, or sociology

Preferred Education: Publication of at least one peer-reviewed publication as first author. Doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, NP, or MD) or ABD with training in Implementation Science or Health Equity

Preferred Experience: Established research experience within HIV prevention or care, LGBTQ+ health, mHealth, mental health, substance use, and/or suicide prevention research
