Student Affairs is organized to augment, strengthen and support the university's commitment to the total development of students. Student Affairs assists with the adjustment of students to both the academic and non-academic environment of the campus. The main focus is on creating and promoting an environment in which students can develop into mature, well-rounded citizens who are self-disciplined and aware of the life long process of education. The Office of Student Health Services provides a continuum of maintenance and preventive health care and health education services to the students. |
Description of Work |
This position is responsible for delivering direct patient care which includes assessments, obtaining routine specimens and vital signs; and assisting health care providers with examinations, procedures, treatments, and administering medications. This position will also support the planning and implementation of educational programs for the student population related to improving health outcomes. |
Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Knowledge (Technical)- Knowledge of basic nursing principles and
techniques for the specific area of practice including the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation),
medication administration, patient education and emergency care. Ability to administer medications on a timely and accurate basis.
Consulting/Advising - Ability to provide patient and family
information on services provided by the organization, and policies and procedures of the organization. Ability to advise and counsel
subordinate employees on daily routines.
Critical Thinking - Basic ability to implement the nursing
process (assess, plan, implement and evaluate) with limited supervision or some supervision as needed.
Client/Customer Service - Ability to demonstrate a professional, caring
approach. Ability to demonstrate patience in
dealing with patients/clients/families.
Coaching/Mentoring - Ability to provide patient and family education
on disease processes, treatment and self-care. Ability to instruct subordinate staff on patient care and daily routines.
Communication - Ability to communicate medical information to
patients/clients/families at all levels ofunderstanding using layman's terms withinHIPAA guidelines. Ability to explain topatient/client/families prior to and during theperformance of a procedure. Ability to activelylisten. Ability to document subjective and
objective data, action taken and plan of care. |
Minimum Training and Experience |
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in NC by the NC Board of Nursing |
