Position Overview

Riverside Research's Applied Mathematics and Physics Solutions group is seeking a full-time summer intern in Champaign, IL to support development of high-impact computational electromagnetics (CEM) codes. Work will be performed in collaboration with a diverse team, with backgrounds in CEM, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, and high-performance computing (HPC). This position will include work on independent research and development (IRAD) and/or contracts.



Responsibilities

    Work with subject matter experts to develop state-of-the-art computational electromagnetics (CEM) tools and/or numerical linear algebra algorithms
  • Aid in design, development, documentation, testing (validation and verification) and debugging of software
  • Support code development activities by developing requirements and test plans for software validation and verification
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance
  • At least a rising junior in Fall 2025 in an undergraduate program in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of C, C++, and/or Fortran software development on and for Linux or other Unix-like systems
  • At least 1 year of experience with Python, Unix shell scripting or computationally focused high-level languages such as MATLAB, Mathematica, Julia, etc
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, written and verbal

Desired Qualifications:

  • Parallel programming experience (MPI and/or OpenMP)


Global Comp

$20.00 - $25.00 hr This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
