Job Summary:

The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Cello. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching and recruitment experience in cello at the advanced level, a record of professional performing experience at the national/international level, clear potential for future success in performance, and evidence of significant creative/research activities. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned faculty and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors.

We are looking for a colleague whose creative research and teaching contributes substantially and boldly to one or more of our School of Music strategic priorities: Modern Transformation, New Musics, Music Education, and Maintaining and Enhancing our Core Strengths.

The successful candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters & Science that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and student-centered teaching and (undergraduate student) mentoring. They will contribute to an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of the broader community.


Responsibilities:

--Recruit and teach a studio of 16-17 diverse undergraduate and graduate cello students, the typical teaching load for applied faculty in the School of Music. Additional courses may be assigned in lieu of studio instruction depending on the candidate's expertise and School's needs.
--Conduct a weekly studio class
--Mentor students and serve on graduate committees
--Demonstrate the school's commitment to recognizing the gifts and needs of all students
--Build relationships across campus and the broader community
--Accomplish and maintain a record of creative scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track position
--Carry out leadership and service, and contribute to shared governance, within the String Area, the School, College of Letters and Science, and University
--Contribute vigorously to the School's educational, research, and engagement missions. Preferred candidates will demonstrate instinct and skill for the fostering of relationships with the wider musical community.

--Evidence of an emerging or established national/international performing career in Cello
--Ability to enhance the School's educational mission and overall commitment to teaching and research
--Evidence of successful teaching at an advanced level

With 33 faculty, 26 full- and part-time instructional staff, and 24 administrative and technical staff, the Mead Witter School of Music is a comprehensive, leading school of music serving approximately 360 undergraduate majors and graduate students in BA, BS, BM, MM, MA, DMA, and PhD degree programs.
