Job Title: Database Administrator

Location(s): Baltimore, MD

Designs, implements, and maintains databases with respect to access methods, access time, batch processes, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Maintains database dictionaries and integrates systems through database design. Maintains and documents shell scripts and batch processes. Ensures that documentation is complete and up-to-date. Develops and applies procedures for periodic database backup.

Essential Functions:


  • 20% Implements designs and structures provided by Systems and Data Architects. Performs installation of software and hardware environments in a timely manner in keeping with current release levels. Creates and maintains schedules for software maintenance and upgrades.
  • 15% Prepares appropriate dimensional data structures and provides logical interfaces for the extract/transform/load process.
  • 15% Maintains database and ensures its availability to users. Maintains database backup and recovery.
  • 15% Monitors database performance and assists with database security.
  • 15% Develop and implement techniques to prevent system problems, troubleshoots incidents to recover services, and support root cause analysis
  • 10% Validates, loads, tests, and verifies data; Performs complete functional testing of database structures and verifies information provided in all environments including development, test, and production.
  • 10% Provides project management support regarding most technical aspects of implementing project release upgrades for assigned systems which includes: properly following a project life cycle, the development of project plans, completing all appropriate documentation and notifications in order to obtain resolution within the established timeframes.

Education Level:


  • Bachelor's Degree


Education Details:


  • Computer Science or IT related field


Experience:


  • 3 years Experience using relational databases Experience retrieving data to perform management and reporting duties.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the required work experience.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs).
  • Knowledge of Oracle, and similar databases., Proficient.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with analysts, developers, tests, and project managers in both oral and written form., Proficient.
  • Ability to work minimal supervision., Proficient.
  • High-level of analytical and troubleshooting skills., Proficient.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications., Proficient.
  • Knowledge of structured query language (SQL)., Proficient.
