Bus Safety Supporter (part-time)- Indianapolis Metropolitan High School

This is a part-time and grant-funded position. The hourly rate is $17-$20 per hour and shift availability needed will be from 2:30 PM to 5 PM (Monday-Friday).

The Bus Safety Supporter will serve as a part-time member of the social-emotional learning team at Indianapolis Metropolitan High School and will be a member of a school community with an educational model that complements the acclaimed barrier removal work Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana does at The Excel Centers, Nurse-Family Partnership, and other award-winning programs. Specifically, this role teaches appropriate bus behaviors and addresses individual student needs while riding identified IndyGo bus routes. They will assist students in boarding and exiting the bus, keep a log of concerns and actions, and serve as a liaison between the school and IndyGo. Example Duties and Activities

  • Teach appropriate bus behaviors and address individual student needs while riding identified IndyGo bus routes.

  • Supervise all students while boarding, riding or departing the bus, with an emphasis on student safety.

  • Monitor students and traffic while waiting for the bus at the bus stop and transit center.

  • Provide assistance as needed to individual students getting to and from the bus and while on the bus.

  • Log student concerns and actions for follow-up and communicate with SEL and school leadership, parents/guardians, and students regarding student safety and behavior.

  • Check in when needed with IndyGo transit center staff regarding any student needs or concerns.

  • Serve as the liaison between Indy Go and the school regarding any issues or concerns.

Required Competencies

  • Degree and Credential Requirements - High school diploma or equivalent

  • Instructional Strategies - Employs various approaches, learning styles, and channels to engage students, such as communicating content in terms they can comprehend, organizing talking points for clarity, and repeating arguments when necessary.

  • Information Monitoring/Reporting - Collects and reviews information to manage or improve the achievement of learning goals.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend others' needs. Delivers information in person, in writing, and in a digital world.

  • Building Collaborative Relationships - Develops, maintains, and strengthens partnerships at all levels with others inside or outside the organization who can provide information, assistance, and support. Is able to receive as well as provide feedback to improve performance or processes.

  • Adaptability - Maintains effectiveness when experiencing shifts in priorities; adjusts effectively while maintaining a positive learning environment.

  • Technical Knowledge - Has working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office.
