Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Advocate - per diem

Description

The Newton-Wellesley Hospital Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program provides individual, community and systems responses to sexual assault and domestic violence through direct advocacy services, education, community linkages, quality improvement and program evaluation.

* Provide direct services to primary and secondary survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. Services include but are not limited to crisis intervention, collaborative safety planning, advocacy, short and in some instances long-term counseling, as well as the provision of information, and supported referrals.

* Holistically and organically assess the particular needs of each survivor and ensure that appropriate services are offered to the survivor and any safe family and friends, including children, elders and animal companions.

* Provide on-call consultation to hospital and community-based health care providers.

* Develop and co-facilitate support, empowerment and wellness groups for survivors of interpersonal violence.

* Provide outreach in the hospital and in the community to increase awareness of the availability of services for survivors. Work to redress any barriers to obtaining such services.

* Work closely with program staff and volunteers to provide trauma-informed and survivor-centered services.

* Work collaboratively with providers both within and outside the hospital to ensure an anti-oppression approach to the challenges faced by survivors both individually and collectively.


Qualifications

Experience

* Must have clinical experience and grounding. Experience in crisis and trauma settings, where significant, can fulfill clinical grounding requirement. Clinical experience can also be proven through licensure in psychology, social work, or mental health counseling, however, such licensure is not strictly necessary.

* Must have 3-5 years of experience in sexual or domestic violence organization. Experience in similar fields (human trafficking organizations, hate crimes, child abuse) will also suffice.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations





    • Master's degree in Social Work, LICSW preferred.
    • Must be DPH-certified as a rape crisis counselor or have the willingness to be so trained.
    • Must have appropriate training as a domestic violence advocate or the willingness to be so trained.

* Multiple cultural and linguistic skills sets strongly preferred.

* Must have a demonstrated ability and skill in conflict negotiation and resolution.

* Must have strong analytical and skills.

* Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

* Must have the ability to work independently and make autonomous decisions.

* Must have ability to work as a member of a team with program staff, hospital staff, and members of the larger community.

* Must be committed to the program's mission of social justice and non-violence.
