About the Department
The Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering ( ISE) at North Carolina State University is first endowed academic department in the entire University of North Carolina System and is one of nine departments within the College of Engineering at NC State. The primary purpose of the department is to provide a sound fundamental education to undergraduate and graduate students (both Masters and Doctoral) and to conduct basic and applied research in emerging areas of industrial and systems engineering.

The department also administratively supports the interdisciplinary graduate programs in Masters of Engineering Management ( MEM), Operations Research (OR) and Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Institute ( IMSEI). The department also is heavily involved in outreach activities to industry and plays a vital role in fulfilling the missions of the College of Engineering and University. There are two centers within the department, Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics ( CAMAL) and Ergonomics Center of North Carolina (Ergo Center). The department has a global reach, providing special courses for international universities, exchanging students and faculty internationally, and participating in international conferences. ISE also participates with the state in economic development and nationally/internationally in leading the profession.
Essential Job Duties
This Accounting Technician position is essential to the management of fiscal matters within the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. This position must be able to manage a variety of transactions which require financial program knowledge.

This position performs a wide range of purchasing, accounting and travel responsibilities in support of the faculty, staff and students of the department; to include processing payment requests, invoices (large volume), deposits, personal reimbursements, IDT's, journal vouchers, service unit billing, purchasing card reconciliation, audit, review and verify travel reimbursement requests, travel authorizations for accuracy, proper coding and compliance with accounting standards and regulations ensuring proper backup documentation is provided.

Additional duties include:

  • Ability to identify problems and offer / explain solutions for resolution and make necessary changes as appropriate.
  • Responsible for providing a variety of administrative support, including answer phone calls, directing questions, and troubleshooting financial inquiries.
  • Works closely with Contract Managers and Business Officer for financial management of state and non-state appropriated funds.
  • Manage and monitor financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and regulations as well as NCSU and State policy.

Other Responsibilities

  • Serves as backup to the Human Resources Specialist in processing H1B/ J1 visas
  • Supports all departmental events outside normal working hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Minimum Experience/Education
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Related office experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (or similar software).
  • Experience with file management, both electronic and hard copy files.
  • Experience with general office equipment.
  • Excellent customer service skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of NC State finance and HR rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft Financial and HR systems or similar systems.
