Job Summary

The Student Housing IT Assistant position is an integral member of the Housing and Residential Experience team. The Housing IT Student Assistant works collaboratively with the IT Assistant Director and other staff members to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and information. Together, the Housing IT Student Assistant and IT Assistant Director support the mission, vision, and values of the Housing and Residential Experience Office. With the goal of providing excellent services to students in the residence halls. Housing IT is responsible for assisting with day-to-day administrative responsibilities that ensure technology operates in our department.

General Expectations

The Housing IT Student Assistant will:

  • Serve as a resource for residents, families and other campus community members and should be familiar with the services and opportunities provided by Housing and Residence Experience, the Division of Student Affairs, the Division of Information Technology, and other university departments and offices
  • Be knowledgeable of and able to communicate Housing and Residence Experience procedures and policies to residents specifically around technology
  • Be able to respond and troubleshoot issues after hours and on weekends

Administrative Responsibilities

The Housing IT Student Assistants will:

  • Serve as first point of contact and assist with resolution of internet connectivity issues (WiFi and Ethernet)
  • Provide preventative maintenance for computers, printers, Digital Signage, and technology across department buildings.
  • Organize inventory and track items in storage space, computers, and valuable assets.
  • Provide updates to integrated systems
  • Complete special projects as assigned by IT Assistant Director.
  • Provide hardware and software support to Housing staff
  • Replace batteries in locks
  • Check tickets submitted by students and staff
  • Troubleshoot issues with locks

Customer Service Responsibilities:

Housing IT Student Assistants are:

  • Expected to maintain a positive attitude that is welcoming to residents/guests and supportive of the University and the department.
  • Expected to provide excellent customer service to students and parents by phone, email and in person regarding any housing and residence Experience questions, concerns, and requests around technology.
  • To uphold and maintain confidentiality with sensitive student information.
  • Expected to maintain a high level of professionalism in communication with residents, staff, and guests
  • Be familiar with the different offices and services available to students at the University in order to make appropriate referrals to residents in regards to technology
  • Wear department provided polo shirt and name tag
Minimum Qualifications

  • Housing IT Student Assistants must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment.
  • Housing IT Student Assistants must be full - time registered students
  • Housing IT Student Assistants must be and remain in good conduct standing with the Department and University, including no significant or recent student conduct history .
  • Previous experience with information technology systems, networks, and/or computer support.
  • Prior to employment, Housing IT Student Assistants must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting as per the Housing and Residential Experience requirement
  • Work 20 hours per week during the academic semesters

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule

The Housing IT Student Assistants will:

  • be scheduled for no less than 5 and no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • attend and actively participate in any mandatory staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • request and obtain approval from a supervisor prior to any shift changes or absences
Advertised Salary

$14.50/hour
