This position is an exciting opportunity to join Lam's electron microscopy/metrology team in Fremont, CA. (Nightshift)

The Impact You'll Make

As a Process Engineer (Electron microscopist) at Lam, you will operate several generations of FEI/Thermo Fisher dual beam Helios tools, including the latest models to prepare TEM lamella and images using in-situ STEM detectors. Samples are representative of a diverse set of processes from across the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process and will provide a dynamic set of challenges and opportunities for growth over the long term. Your expertise and knowledge play a crucial role in our process team and customers' success, impacting the next generation of semiconductor breakthroughs.

What You'll Do
  • Preparation of samples using Focused Ion Beam (FIB) to create microscopy lamella, followed by in situ Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) imaging.
  • Generate best-in-class data through quality control and continuous improvement.
  • Proper handling of sensitive customer samples and intellectual property.
  • Work with process engineers to understand how to locate regions of interest, best process their samples, interpreting data, and troubleshooting when data does not meet expectations.
  • Communicate with team members to facilitate technique transfers, pass down sample learnings, and advance the state of the art in semiconductor microscopy.
  • Maintain integrity of experiments and data to provide valid results.
  • Actively participate in developing new techniques to expedite sample processing.
  • Provide new learnings and developments to other team members through documentation, presentations, and training sessions Collaborate with process engineers.

Participate in evaluating new instruments for lab growth.

Who We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic or professional laboratory setting.
  • Experience operating electron microscopes and/or dual beam focused ion beams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemistry, or Physics
  • Experience creating technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S with 1+ year of experience operating focused ion beams (FIB).
  • B.S with 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with TEM sample preparation is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience of Thermo Fisher Helios series tools.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor devices and industry.
  • Candidate should possess good written and verbal communication skills to work with large internal customer base.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $69,000.00 -$152,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
