POSITION TITLE: Adjunct Instructor (specialty: Reference and Instructional Librarian )
STATUS: Part time

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Faculty
MINIMUM PAY RATE: $35.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY

Joliet Junior College is seeking an Adjunct Reference and Instruction Librarian to provide friendly and courteous reference service to students, faculty, staff and community members who use the Library. The Adjunct Librarian will conduct information literacy sessions, working with faculty to develop quality instruction and assessment of learning. The Adjunct Librarian will report to the Department Chair and support Library services and projects as directed and in accordance with established procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and deliver information literacy instruction online and in person.

2. Provide in-depth reference for students, faculty, staff, and community members in person and through appropriate technologies.

3. Effectively communicate with appropriate colleagues.

4. Assist in the creation of reference or research support materials or services in response to curricular needs.

5. Maintain current awareness of professional practice and commitment to personal career development activities.

6. Work with colleagues in collection maintenance activities.

7. Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.

8. Commit to furthering the mission, goals, and core values of the college.

9. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.

10. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

11. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.

2. Expertise in appropriate technologies for reference and instruction.

3. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.

4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

5. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in an academic library setting. May include experience in special, school, and public libraries.

2. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management systems.

3. Experience in course development and assessment

4. A strong commitment to supporting cultural competencies, diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education.

5. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

6. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
