Emergency Department - Crisis Clinician

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Emergency Department Crisis Team Clinician is part of a hospital-based crisis intervention team. He/She will provide psychiatric crisis services at AHMC's Emergency Department. He/She will be responsible for coordinating phone referrals for admission, conducting Emergency Department evaluations and serving as a liaison within the Emergency Department and community agencies for patients with psychiatric, and substance use difficulties. These responsibilities will be carried out as part of a crisis team approach under the direction of the Medical Director and Director of the Emergency Department. He/She will facilitate communication and movement of patient between services in the hospital, outside agencies and surrounding mental health facilities. This individual may also be called upon to support similar functions in the inpatient and swing bed settings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills Required:

1. Master's Degree in psychology, counseling or social work.
2. Licensed preferred.
3. At least one-year experience as a clinician in a psychiatric hospital or mental health unit preferred.
4. At least one year's experience in outpatient or inpatient mental health evaluation and treatment preferably involving crisis evaluations.
5. Experience in alcohol/drug related counseling preferred.
6. Meets requirements of physical / pre-placement screening.

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of patients for which care is being provided.
