The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment as part of a diversity cluster hiring opportunity on Addressing Health Equity in Age-related Disorders ( AHEAD). The AHEAD cluster envisions bringing together a cohort of scholars from the School of Engineering (SoE), School of Arts and Sciences ( SAS), and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences ( RBHS) to (i) collectively advance knowledge of neurodegenerative disorders, (ii) develop treatments and technology solutions that help people experience a higher quality of life as they age, and (iii) develop a deeper understanding of the social, racial, and ethnic health disparities associated with the onset, progression, and treatment of age-related neurodegeneration.
Within this AHEAD cluster, the Department of Biomedical Engineering seeks an individual with research interests and expertise in neurodegenerative disease and related areas of engineering including biomechanics, rehabilitation, imaging, data analysis, and others. It is envisioned that this faculty member will contribute to the cluster through the development, implementation, and validation of new engineering technologies that can drive new basic science or clinical studies. A specific area of focus is on approaches that can potentially lead to increased health equity in aging and neurodegenerative disease.

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of scholarly productivity and external research support, as well as excellent investigative, communication, and leadership skills. The candidate is expected to maintain their outstanding research and develop teaching and training programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This position prioritizes junior faculty and thus appointment at the assistant professor is anticipated, but appointment at a higher rank commensurate with the applicant's experience will be considered. In addition, Rutgers and the Department of Biomedical Engineering are committed to promoting and maintaining a diverse and inclusive culture, and candidates should have demonstrated success towards this mission.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Research interest and expertise in biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering and/or quantitative image analysis will be considered. A specific area of focus is health equity in aging and neurodegenerative disease.
