The Department of English at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Medieval or Early Modern literature and culture. We welcome applications from scholars working across the entire range of the medieval and early modern periods, from Old and Middle English to the late seventeenth century, and from a variety of methodologies, including work that embraces cross-cultural or global perspectives as well as trans- and circum-Atlantic writing.
The appointment is expected to begin on September 1, 2025. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of pre-1750 literature and culture that reflect their expertise; applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to effective teaching and mentoring and the ability to maintain an active research program. The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in English or a related field at the time of appointment; applicants should be no more than three years beyond a post-doctoral appointment.
Candidates should submit the following by October 8, 2024:
* a brief (2-page) cover letter
* a statement of research interests (project abstract)
* a statement (1-2 pages) addressing how your teaching, service and/or scholarship demonstrate a commitment to building a more diverse, inclusive and equitable campus community
* a curriculum vitae
* a writing sample (20-30 pages)
* three recommendation letters
