Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Market Ambassador - New Brunswick Community Farmers Market for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The New Brunswick Community Farmers Market (
NBCFM) provides opportunities for students and community residents to work for the market, helping us to achieve our vital mission.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Assists with ongoing programs designed to improve food security for members of the Rutgers and New Brunswick communities.
- Works at the weekly markets, promoting/tabling at special events as representatives for NBCFM (with a focus on neighborhood and community engagement).
- Under the direction of research team leaders, the Market Ambassadors will serve as liaisons between the NBCFM and local organizations and networks, including houses of worship, cultural centers, food pantries, and schools.
- Assists with the collection of data from consumer surveys, transmits findings from the research team, and engages in outreach by delivering promotional presentations, distributes flyers/brochures and broadly shares information about the benefits of shopping at the NBCFM.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- The ideal candidates will be fluent in spoken and written English and Spanish.
- Strong candidates will have relevant prior experience with at least one of the following: community surveys/research, food preparation and service, customer service and marketing, community nutrition, and/or farmers markets.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Market Ambassadors must be reliable, punctual, and dependable with a friendly, personable, and outgoing disposition.
- Ambassadors must be eager to communicate in an engaging and respectful manner with diverse residents of the New Brunswick community.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (including weekends and evenings) and the ability to travel to locations throughout New Brunswick are required.
