Environmental Sciences in the School for Environmental and Biological Sciences (
SEBS) at
Rutgers University-New Brunswick invite applicants for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2025. The position in Data Science and AI for Climate and Biodiversity is part of an 11-member faculty cluster hire in
Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and the successful candidate will be appointed in either or both of the searching departments.
We seek a computational scholar-teacher studying
extreme weather or climate events or how extreme weather or climate events affect ecology, evolution, and biodiversity. The successful candidate will develop an innovative, externally funded research program that will productively use the burgeoning amount of Earth systems data and models to understand the impacts of extreme weather and climate events, make projections of such events, or help predict and mitigate their effects on ecological systems. They will broaden existing strengths in climate change research and data science at Rutgers and
SEBS and join a vibrant community working across many aspects of climate change scholarship.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (in ecology, environmental sciences, or meteorology/atmospheric science) aligned with their background and departmental needs. They will also be committed to student research mentoring and engaging with the broader community. |

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Preferred candidates have a PhD and postdoctoral experience relevant to data science and applications in atmospheric science, environmental sciences, or ecology, have a demonstrated ability to conduct research, engage in grantsmanship, teach at the collegiate level, and mentor students. |
