Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the Continuing Dental Education ( COE) and Area Heatlh Education Centers ( AHEC) division is to support the teaching, lifelong learning, research, and service activities of the School of Dentistry. These activities reinforce the School of Dentistry's four mission areas (teaching, research, patient care and service), as well as link internal and external constituencies to the School of Dentistry. The COE & AHEC division links dental professionals and the public with clinical, educational, and informational services provided by the School of Dentistry. The COE and AHEC division must continually evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of the constituents it serves. The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Continuing Dental Education's mission is to improve the knowledge base and advance the practice of dentistry through quality educational activities. By offering activities that feature current research in science and technology, we help dentists and dental team members advance their knowledge and skills, and promote innovations in the field. The Office of Continuing Dental Education serves a global constituency, including UNC Adams School of Dentistry faculty, staff, and dental professionals in North Carolina, the nation, and beyond. We are dedicated to bringing best practices and excellence to all that we serve and transforming dentistry for better health.
Position Summary
Manage educational activities from various departments of the ASOD and serve as AHEC Coordinator for the Office of Continuing Dental Education and AHEC. This position must be familiar with State, University and the American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program ( ADA CERP) regulations and be able to make decisions that will satisfy all three regulatory bodies. This position will assist faculty in developing educational activities that adhere to the ADA CERP requirements. This position will select appropriate meeting facilities, negotiate hotel and other vendor contracts, develop promotional pieces and budgets, manage food and beverage functions and oversee the educational activities assigned from beginning to end. This position will also work with the nine AHEC regional offices to help them secure faculty to present CE offerings in the respective regions via webinar or in person meetings.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Work performed in this position has impact on various areas within the Adams School of Dentistry, NC AHEC, as well as outside providers, thus, the following skills are essential to performing the tasks in this position to the standard required.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills combined with equivalent interpersonal skills.
-Ability to convey information clearly and effectively to an extremely diverse population of faculty, staff, students, alumni, vendors and other dental professionals in a courteous manner.
-Familiar with State, University and American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program ( ADA CERP) regulations and be able to make decisions that will satisfy all three regulatory bodies.
-Attention to detail and deadlines is critical.
-Work independently when necessary but must also be a flexible team player.
-Excellent problem-solving skills.
-Organize and simultaneously manage multiple projects and priorities under pressure in a busy, professional environment.
-Demonstrate proficiency using computer programs and applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Windows; Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook; Adobe Acrobat, ABC Signup, and Meeting Trak.
-Keeps computer skills current and can function at a level that supports software used in day-to-day operations to maximize productivity and efficiency.
-Must be able to lift 50 lbs. to transport conference supplies to various venues.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Direct work experience adult in continuing education and/or higher education. Experience with event and meeting planning. Strong computer skills (including all Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel), and Adobe. Working knowledge of ADA CERP standards and procedures, Connect Carolina, Concur, PeopleSoft, and Learning Stream a big plus.
