***This role is fully remote but needs to be based in Wilmington, NC***

If you are a Professional Engineer aiming to grow your career within Forensics Engineering, then our Structural Engineer - Forensics opportunity will have you build credible relationships with clients and the community, having you think laterally approaching challenges in delivering project solutions.



Responsibilities

As our Structural Engineer - Forensics, you will conduct field investigations and analyze failures involving a variety of structures within residential and commercial properties. You will determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects, and building system failures. Evaluations may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, subsurface investigations, and vibration analysis.

Other responsibilities include:

    Analyze failures in buildings and other infrastructure systems by conducting site visits and applying engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards, as well as integrating spatial and unmanned aerial technologies.
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for a variety of clients.
  • Prepare reports documenting causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation.
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings.


Qualifications

If you possess the following experience & qualifications, we encourage you to apply:

  • B.S. degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • North Carolina and South Carolina Licensed Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • 2+ years of engineering experience performing building assessments and failure analysis, with report preparation for property owners, insurance companies, and/or attorneys.
  • Working knowledge of structural systems and foundation design/analysis/construction.
  • Design/analysis experience with reinforced concrete, masonry, wood, and steel.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and experience reviewing building plans and specifications.
  • Structural analysis software (RISA, STADD, etc.) a plus.
  • Updated NCEES record and the ability to obtain licensure in other states.
  • Willing and able to travel.
  • Capable to access multi-story roofs or willing to train.
  • Capable to access crawlspaces and attics.
