This position is a customer on-premises located in Washington D.C. Job Description
  • Responsible for the on-site preventative maintenance of an operational ASTRO 25, WAVE VOIP system including adjacent technologies for Federal, State and Local government agencies requiring highly secure, easily managed, mission critical IP networks.
  • The Sr. System Technologist reports to the on-site Sr. Mgr. Field Service Team
  • Consult with Sales, Program Manager, Sr. Field Service Team Manager, and the System Integration Team to set strategy, direction and the implementation.
  • Lead and define Operations and Maintenance activities for ASTRO 25 networks and adjacent technologies, with the primary focus on preventative maintenance of RF (BR) sites
  • Lead and define the scheduling and hands-on performance of annual preventative maintenance activities leveraging developed processes and data-gathering sheets
  • Coordinate with the Lead Systems Engineer and on-site MSI Service staff on the identification and correction of out-of-specification findings
  • Work with third party vendors/contractors for additional staffing as required to perform the preventative maintenance activities per schedule.
  • Oversee the activities of third party vendors/contractors engaged as additional staffing for preventative maintenance
  • During non-preventative maintenance timeframes, assist the MSI on-site Service staff with troubleshooting and break-fix activities on the system, primarily associated with the RF (BR) sites
  • Network topology assessments and troubleshooting

Candidate Requirements:

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of preventative maintenance processes and tools primarily associated with RF (BR) sites
  • Experience with RF site survey, site preparation, and site grounding requirements
  • Experience with and understanding of MSI Astro 25 RF site equipment
  • Experience with and understanding of antenna subsystem networks (antennas, RF feedline, TVSS devices, circulators, etc.)
  • Usage and operation experience with Anritsu/Viavi/Aeroflex service monitor, wattmeter, etc.
  • Understanding of MSI Astro 25 conventional (VHF/UHF) systems and performance
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Applications required
  • Experience with use of command line and/or GUI interfaces to provision equipment is a plus
  • Experience with Network Management Applications a plus: Solarwinds, JUNO-Space, Nokia SAM/NFM-P, Provision
  • Self motivated, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Works collaboratively and builds relationships with other colleagues, customers, and third party service professionals.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contracts
  • Must be willing to obtain a DHS Public Trust Clearance
  • Able to travel (30%) to various customer RF sites to perform preventative maintenance
  • The role entails providing on-premises support to our valued customers in Washington D.C.

This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Basic Requirements
  • Associates degree OR or trade school certification in a technical field AND 2+ years of experience OR 3+ years of experience with one of the following: Military, Networking equipment, Motorola equipment, LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
